#5: Is the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 ready to compete?

The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was one of the biggest disappointments of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season. Winning just four of the season’s 36 races, Chevrolet hit an unexpected bump in the road.

Now, one year later, a new question is formed. Can Chevrolet turn things around?

Toyota has continued to perform week in and week out, and Ford has been stronger than ever over the last few years. If the Camaro can reach the success that it was slated to, the 2019 season could become very interesting!

With NASCAR’s most popular driver Chase Elliott leading the Chevrolet charge last season, it would be huge for the sport if the 23-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia native can have another breakout season. There is no doubt that when Elliott wins, the sport wins, and the Camaro’s success will have a direct effect on whether the driver of the #9 Chevrolet can become a true championship contender in 2019.

In addition to Elliott’s success, Hendrick Motorsports as a whole are looking to rebound. The New York Yankees of the NASCAR garage earned just three wins last season, making last season the second consecutive season during which the top-tier team fell short of expectations.

If a powerhouse organization like Hendrick Motorsports can regain their former success, yet another exciting layer will be added to races on Sunday.

Needless to say, the success of the Camaro will play a large role in the Cup Series garage this year. A lot of smaller storylines are riding off one of the biggest there is: can the bow ties compete once again?
