4. Porsche 935

I would have to call the Porsche 935 the most dominant GT car of all time. The car raced in numerous series in Europe and North America, including the IMSA GT Championship.

The Porsche 935 was in production from 1976 through 1981, and it raced until 1985. In 1979, the car beat out the prototypes to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Through 1984, the Porsche 935 won over 150 races across the globe. The car won the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring six times each.

Along with these race wins, the Porsche 935 went undefeated in the German DRM Series from 1977 to 1979, earned numerous IMSA GTX victories and won the World Championship for Makes in each year from 1976 to 1979. The car also went undefeated in the Australian GT Championship in 1982 and won the championship in that series in both 1982 and 1983.

3. Eagle MKIII

The Eagle MKIII boasts one of the best win to race ratios of any IMSA car of all-time. Of the 27 races in which the car competed from 1991 through 1993, it won 21 of them.

The Eagle MKIII was part of the IMSA GTP series. The car won its first race in only its second appearance in 1991. In 1992, the field was one of the most competitive that IMSA had ever seen, with Nissan and Jaguar boasting great prototype cars. The car won nine of the 13 races that season, and Nissan and Jaguar folded after the season ended.

Without Nissan and Jaguar competing in the 1993 season, the Eagle MKIII won 10 of the season’s 11 races. The only reason it didn’t win all 11 is because it wasn’t entered in the race at Road America. Toyota, the car’s main sponsor, never explained why they did not fund the team’s effort for that race.

After the 1993 season, the IMSA GTP category folded, and Toyota did not continue to fund a prototype effort. But the Eagle MKIII ended its three-year reign as arguably the most dominant car in IMSA history.
