Richard Childress Racing

Richard Childress Racing were the best team overall in the Xfinity Series for years. Lately, they’ve fallen behind Joe Gibbs Racing and JR Motorsports. But the signing of defending Xfinity Series champion Tyler Reddick in the offseason has done wonders for that team. He has not yet won a race in the 2019 season, but he’s a constant fixture of the top three.

In races the five races that Reddick has completed, he has recorded an average finish of 4.60, and his one DNF came after he was competing inside the top three with arguably the best car at the end of the race, which he finished in 14th place.

Reddick finished in second place behind Kyle Busch in the My Bariatric Solutions 300 and he had a put pressure on the former champion, but he just didn’t have the time to run him down following the race’s final restart. He is going to win some races this year and he’s going to be in the championship hunt until the end.

Reddick’s teammate today was Kaz Grala in the #21 Chevrolet. Grala looked good at times, but looseness after the final restart made him drop like a rock. He bounced back to stay in the top 20, finishing in 18th place.

JR Motorsports

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Hendrick Motorsports development team had an odd day to say the least. The drivers expected to compete for wins finished outside the top 10, while a part-timer had the team’s best finish. Jeb Burton finished in fifth place in the #8 Chevrolet after starting in sixth. Michael Annett, who won the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, finished behind Burton in sixth.

However, five-time race winner in 2018 Justin Allgaier ended up finishing in 12th place, dropping eight positions from the start of the race, and one of NASCAR’s top prospects, Noah Gragson, ended the race in 13th, though he did improve from a 16th place starting position.

JR Motorsports drivers have only led a total of 76 laps through six races this season. The team led 1,254 total laps last year. Allgaier led most of those laps with 741 laps led, but he has not yet led a lap in 2019. Something’s amiss in the team’s camp. It’s too early to tell if their issues are related to Hendrick Motorsports’ issues in the Cup Series, but something is up.
