By Asher Fair
Following Simon Pagenaud’s first victory since the 2017 IndyCar season in the IndyCar Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, how do the IndyCar Driver Power Rankings look?
By winning the fifth race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud earned his first victory since he won the 2017 season finale at Sonoma Raceway.
Additionally, by winning 85-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (3.925-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in Speedway, Indiana, the 34-year-old Frenchman became the fifth different driver to win a race this season.
His victory made the 2019 season the second season in the last three seasons to feature five different winners in the first five races, as seven different drivers won the first seven races of the 2017 season.
So far this season, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi have also each won one race.
