British Grand Prix

A first-lap incident that dropped him to last place almost couldn’t stop Lewis Hamilton from winning his fifth consecutive British Grand Prix last year. His fierce comeback left him just shy of another victory in second place, just over two seconds behind Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. This year’s homecoming for the Briton should prove slightly more special.

German Grand Prix

#1 on the list of “Races Hamilton should have had no chance to win in 2018” had to be the German Grand Prix. But through an unforced Vettel error and a convenient missed penalty on behalf of the FIA — the two underlying themes of Formula 1 lately — Hamilton still won, and he did so after starting all the way back in 14th place, the lowest starting position for a winner in a decade.

Hungarian Grand Prix

The 13-year “whoever wins the Hungarian Grand Prix loses the driver championship” ‘curse’ was brought to an end in dominant fashion by Hamilton last year, and I’m not sure that anyone has any reason to believe he won’t begin a new trend by winning this race and the championship for the second consecutive season.

Winner: Lewis Hamilton
