Formulated IndyCar Driver Power Rankings Analysis

James Hinchcliffe and Spencer Pigot each recorded their season-high finishes in the Iowa 300, with Hinchcliffe finishing on the podium for the first time this season in third place and Pigot tying his season-high finish of fifth.

Hinchcliffe and Pigot finished in first and a career-high second place, respectively, at Iowa Speedway last season, so it was no surprise to see them run well at the track this year.

As a result of their strong performances, they each jumped up three positions in the formulated IndyCar Driver Power Rankings despite the fact that their results did not reduce their average finish in the last five races by a whole lot. Hinchcliffe’s decreased by 1.20 from 11.80 to 10.60 while Pigot’s decreased by 1.00 from 14.80 to 13.80.

Meanwhile, four drivers dropped two positions in these rankings, with the most notable one of these four drivers being Marco Andretti. Andretti, while he has recorded three top 10 finishes in the last five races, is still searching for his first top five finish of the season.

Additionally, Andretti is at risk of falling further in these rankings since the next result that is set to be replaced in the calculation for his average finish in the last five races is his sixth place finish in the second race at the Raceway on Belle Isle, which is tied for his season-high finish. His average finish in the last five races is currently 14.00.
