NASCAR Xfinity Series: Chase Briscoe wins 2019 U.S. Cellular 250

Chase Briscoe earned his first victory of the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series at Iowa Speedway by winning the U.S. Cellular 250.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell dominated the 19th race on the 33-race 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule, the U.S. Cellular 250, at Iowa Speedway, but it was Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe who passed him for the lead with seven laps remaining en route to securing his first victory of the season and the second victory of his Xfinity Series career.

Briscoe started this 250-lap race around the four-turn, 0.875-mile (1.408-kilometer) Iowa Speedway oval in Newton, Iowa in second place in his #98 Ford, and he won it by 1.069 seconds over Bell, who started the race from the pole position, in second in his #20 Toyota. Additionally, overcame a penalty for running over an air hose on lap 160 that send him to the back of the field.

GMS Racing’s John Hunter Nemechek was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver of the race. He finished in third place in his #23 Chevrolet.

Chevrolet drivers rounded out the rest of the top six as well, as JR Motorsports teammates Noah Gragson and Justin Allgaier finished in fourth and sixth place in their #9 Chevrolet and #7 Chevrolet, respectively, while Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick finished in fifth in his #2 Chevrolet.

H2 Motorsports’ Shane Lee finished in seventh place in his #28 Toyota ahead of Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley in eighth in his #11 Chevrolet. JR Motorsports teammates Zach Smith and Michael Annett finished in ninth and 10th in their #8 Chevrolet and #1 Chevrolet, respectively, to round out the top 10.

This race featured a total of eight lead changes among five drivers. Aside of Briscoe, who led only seven laps, four drivers led at least one lap of the race. Bell led by far more laps than anybody else in the field with 234 laps led. Nemechek, Smith and Jeremy Clements Racing’s Jeremy Clements also led at least one lap of this race. Bell won both stage one and stage two.

This race also featured six incident-related caution flag periods to go along with the two planned caution flag periods for the endings of stages one and two. Of the 38 drivers who started the race, 25 finished it and 15 of these 25 drivers finished on the lead lap.
