Formulated IndyCar Driver Power Rankings Analysis

Unsurprisingly, Felix Rosenqvist made the biggest jump up the formulated IndyCar Driver Power Rankings with his career-high second place finish. His second place finish replaced his 16th place finish in the second race at the Raceway on Belle Isle in the calculation for his average finish in the last five races, lowering that average by 2.80 from 10.60 to 7.80.

At the top, things stayed the same, as none of the top six changed. Josef Newgarden leads the championship standings over Alexander Rossi and has never trailed him this season, but Rossi’s consistency has resulted in him being ranked #1 for several weeks.

However, despite  the fact that Rossi has been more consistent than Newgarden, Newgarden had a solid chance to jump to the top in the Honda Indy 200. Newgarden’s 19th place finish in the second race at the Raceway on Belle Isle was set to be replaced by his finish in this race in the calculation for his average finish in the last five races.

This average was set to drop by 3.00 from 5.60 to 2.60. But on the last lap of the race, Newgarden threw away a fourth place finish by making a way too aggressive pass attempt on Ryan Hunter-Reay. As a result, he finished in 14th place and only lowered this average by 1.00 to 4.60.
