Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin secured his fifth NASCAR Cup Series victory at Pocono Raceway but his first at the track since the 2010 season by winning the 36-race 2019 season’s 21st race, the Gander RV 400.
Hamlin’s victory in this 163-lap race, which went three laps longer than its scheduled distance due to a late caution flag period, around the three-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Pocono Raceway oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania was his third victory of the season, and it was Joe Gibbs Racing’s series-high 11th.
Hamlin trails only teammates Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. on the wins list so far this season, and he is tied with Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski. Meanwhile, Team Penske are the closest team to Joe Gibbs Racing on the wins list with five victories.
On top of that, Hamlin’s victory in the Gander RV 400 also produced Joe Gibbs Racing’s second 1-2-3 finish of the season. Erik Jones finished in second place while Truex Jr. finished in third. Hamlin also won the season opener Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway ahead of Busch in second and Jones in third.
