How does the 2019 NASCAR Truck Series playoff picture look following Brett Moffitt’s playoff-opening UNOH 200 victory at Bristol Motor Speedway?

GMS Racing’s Brett Moffitt, the reigning NASCAR Truck Series champion, opened up the 2019 playoffs by securing his series-high fourth victory of the season in the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

This 200-lap race around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) Bristol Motor Speedway oval in Bristol, Tennessee was the first of three races in the round of 8, which is the first of three rounds in the seven-race playoffs. Overall, this race was the 17th race of the 23-race season.

As a result of Moffitt’s victory, he has locked himself into the round of 6. With a series-high 28 playoff points that he will carry to the round of 6 already, he will look to add to this total over the course of the final two races of the round of 8 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Five of the other seven playoff drivers finished the UNOH 200 in the top 10, with the only two who failed to do so being ThorSport Racing’s Johnny Sauter and DGR-Crosley’s Tyler Ankrum. They finished in 11th and 20th place, respectively.

Sauter is one of the five drivers aside of Moffitt who sit above the round of 6 cut line while Ankrum is one of the two drivers who sit below it. Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Austin Hill, who finished the race in 10th place, is the other driver who currently sits below the cut line.

Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Chandler Smith, whose start in this race was just the third start of his Truck Series career, was the only non-playoff driver who finished in the top five.

He finished in a career-high second place behind Moffitt and ahead of Niece Motorsports Ross Chastain, Halmar Friesen Racing’s Stewart Friesen and ThorSport Racing’s Matt Crafton in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Not yet discussed in this article among playoff drivers is ThorSport Racing’s Matt Crafton. He finished in a solid seventh place in this race.
