Bubba Wallace

Bubba Wallace had all the hype on his side going into 2019. Particularly, finishing second in the 2018 Daytona 500 got him some attention. However, that’s exactly when everything started going downhill.

2019 was not a year to remember for the fiery 26-year-old: only one top 10 finish at Indianapolis, three DNFs and an average finish of just 23.94. He scored just 482 fantasy points, good for 28th overall.

Wallace has also kind of developed a “take no prisoners” attitude toward his career so far in NASCAR. The biggest example is throwing water in Alex Bowman’s face.

This attitude, towards drivers and media, showed that this season was clearly a frustrating one for Wallace, as he developed a short temper, which can drastically change your relationship with the fans. This is exactly what NASCAR needs. Drivers with expressive personalities are severely lacking.

Richard Petty Motorsports also had a terrible year, not just on the race track. Talks of shutting down have cast a big shadow on Wallace. 2020 will be a key year for the survival of Wallace’s career and that of Richard Petty Motorsports. Their alliance with Richard Childress hasn’t panned out as much as it does for other drivers, namely the one discussed on the next slide.
