5 tracks that could host a NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA tripleheader
3. Streets of Belle Isle
This one makes a lot of sense on many levels. The streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan already host a race weekend that features both IndyCar and the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.
Additionally, that weekend includes two IndyCar races, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. The IMSA race is held on Saturday along with the first of the two IndyCar races.
If IndyCar is willing to adjust their schedule to only have one race at Belle Isle per year and race there on Saturday along with IMSA, that would leave Sunday wide open for a potential NASCAR street race.
There has been a lot of talk lately about NASCAR looking into adding a street race to their schedule, and where better to have one than in the Motor City?
It may seem unlikely that IndyCar drops one of the two races there with the doubleheader having been on the schedule since 2013, but under the new ownership of Roger Penske, who has teams in each of these three series, it may not be as unlikely as we think.
This 14-turn, 2.35-mile (3.782-kilometer) temporary street circuit would be a great option to have a tripleheader with these three major racing series. Detroit would be a great host city, especially with the Chevrolet headquarters located in the city and the Ford headquarters located just outside of it.
