NASCAR Cup Series: Early 2020 power rankings

#26 and #25
Despite the fact that he was “under contract” with Roush Fenway Racing through the 2021 season, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was released by the team, and he effectively completed a driver swap by replacing Chris Buescher, the former JTG Daugherty Racing driver who is set to replace him behind the wheel of the #17 Ford. After qualifying for the playoffs with the first two wins of his career in 2017, Stenhouse hasn’t been back to victory lane nor the playoffs, and his results have progressively gotten worse. JTG Daugherty Racing haven’t been as competitive as Roush Fenway Racing, so his outlook isn’t exactly promising.
Ty Dillon’s 2019 season highlighted the fact that his upside really isn’t much higher than a 24th or 25th place finish in the championship standings driving for Germain Racing, and that even led to a retirement rumor that he ultimately denounced. On a positive note, he won two stages, something nobody could have expected, and he built upon what has become perennial success in superspeedway races, recording the second best average finish (9.25) in the series with three top 10 finishes in four events. But other than those results, he finished no higher than 11th throughout the whole season.
