IndyCar: Early 2020 power rankings; a new champion?
By Asher Fair
To be determined
Before we officially start the rankings, it is worth noting that Carlin have not yet confirmed who will drive their #31 Chevrolet for the 2020 season. While there is a chance they could land a full-time driver, the #31 Chevrolet will likely be driven by multiple part-time drivers. Felipe Nasr and Sergio Sette Camara are the two most likely candidates to share the ride.
It is also worth noting that there is a chance that Conor Daly could still end up as a full-time driver this season. He is currently set to compete in the 12 road and street course races and the Indianapolis 500 for Ed Carpenter Racing. Max Chilton is set to compete in the same 13 races for Carlin. Last season, Daly drove in the four non-Indy 500 oval races for Carlin, and there are rumors that he could do it again in Chilton’s car after doing a solid job in 2019. If he does, he would become the 21st full-time driver, but with two teams. With an average finish of 10.25 and a top finish of sixth place in his four races at Carlin last year, he has what it takes to do well no matter which team he drives for, and Ed Carpenter Racing have proven to be a step up from Carlin. If he were to be ranked, he would slot in at #13 out of 21 in these rankings.
Now let’s really get started.
