Part 2 – Truck and Xfinity Series

BTF: You’ve said before that you’ll step away from the Xfinity Series after hitting 100 wins. Do you think you will get that done in 2020? You need four wins to do it, but as you’ve joked about the newly implemented and stricter five-race limit, “NASCAR and the fans love me so much there”.

Busch: You never know how that’s going to play out. Certainly you feel like you have a good chance to win each time you go out there with JGR cars. At the end of the year we’ll see where we are at on the win total.

NOTE: After placing third at Phoenix Raceway this past weekend behind teammates Brandon Jones and Harrison Burton, Busch needs to win each of his four remaining races at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 23, Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday, June 20, New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 18 and Watkins Glen International on Saturday, August 15.

BTF: Would you compete in every race in all three of the top series if NASCAR allowed you to?

Busch: I’m not sure if I would want to compete in every race anymore like my younger days. But I really like to go out there and race, so I would like to race more than I am now, but it is what it is.

BTF: Do you think the bounties on you in the Truck Series will end up raising fan interest in the series like everybody expects? And as a side question, do you find it the least bit ironic that suddenly everybody seems to be okay with Cup guys competing in Trucks given how much criticism you take when you do it?

Busch: It’s all good. It’s going to be interesting, exciting, whatever you want to term it. I guess Cup drivers in Truck Series do sell tickets so take that for what it’s worth. I think it’s a unique opportunity for more attention on the series, which is good. Maybe if more drivers had more teams then had rides then there would be something else there than just myself. I don’t remember who I told, but once (Kevin) Harvick kind of put the idea out there, I thought the guy that really has a shot is (Kyle) Larson at Homestead. But anyone can win on any given day. Bring it on.
