Let’s take a look back at five teammate incidents which have happened in Formula 1 over the years that fans may have forgotten about.
The word “teammate” is used very lightly in the Formula 1 world. Even though both drivers on a team have the same personal goal and they both share the same team goal, that does not make them mates by any stretch.
In fact, for the most part, they become bitter enemies on the track. There are two possible outcomes in Formula 1 when it comes to being teammates. One outcome is that they are able to get on with each other outside of the track, meaning they already have the required respect with each other on track.
The second outcome is the complete opposite. They can’t stand each other, their egos take over, there is a lack of respect and they end up splitting the team. That is, until one driver is inevitably given the boot.
Despite what some say, everyone enjoys a good old-fashioned intrateam rivalry, whether or not it is for the win, 10th place or even just not to be last. It always provides entertainment.
