Underrated consistency

As discussed in the previous slide, Kevin Harvick has not finished outside of the top nine this season, and he leads the championship standings through four races.

The driver with the second highest worst finish? Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher.

Buescher sits in 14th place in the championship standings with just one finish higher than 14th place this season, his third place finish at Daytona International Speedway. But he has not finished lower than 17th all year.

He finished in 14th place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 16th at Auto Club Speedway and 17th at Phoenix Raceway.

This is nothing new for Buescher, however. The 27-year-old Prosper, Texas native is in his first year back at Roush Fenway Racing following a three-year stint at JTG Daugherty Racing, and the 2015 Xfinity Series champion is simply picking up where he left off.

There is not a more under-the-radar consistent driver in Buescher, maybe in NASCAR history. His move from JTG Daugherty Racing to Roush Fenway Racing was considered an upgrade, yet even last year at the former, he went on a 16-race streak during which he finished no lower than 18th place.

Not even seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson has done that in his entire 19-year career at powerhouse team Hendrick Motorsports.

Going back to last year, Buescher is on a 10-race streak of top 20 finishes. He is also the only driver aside of Harvick and Denny Hamlin to finish on the lead lap in all four races this season.
