Texas Motor Speedway

Texas Motor Speedway is one of Jimmie Johnson’s winningest tracks. His seven wins at the track, including three straight from 2014 to 2015, are the most for a NASCAR driver at the track.

Even the repave in 2017 couldn’t stop Johnson, as he won the spring race at the track. He did struggle a bit after that race with three finishes of 15th place or worse, although he qualified in the top 10 in two of those three races.

His fortunes at the track turned in 2019. Johnson took the pole position for the spring race and led a race-high 60 laps en route to a fifth place finish. It was his first top five finish in almost a year at the time.

The race was full of comers and goers, as five drivers led over 30 laps, and Johnson was arguably the best of the bunch. Despite not winning that day, he carried plenty of momentum from his strong run.

While Johnson didn’t qualify at the front for the fall race, he did a good job of working his way to the front. He led 40 laps before spinning out while running in the top 10. It was another disappointing finish for Johnson after such a strong run.

The two races at Texas Motor Speedway last year were the only races in which he led more than 10 laps. He, along with his Hendrick Motorsports teammates, showed a ton of speed during each race.

One big factor to consider here is that there is currently only one race scheduled at Texas Motor Speedway this year. The other one was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is expected to be rescheduled sometime before the playoffs begin in September.
