Charlotte Motor Speedway

It can be easy to forget that Charlotte Motor Speedway was once Jimmie Johnson’s playground. He has eight career wins at the track, and that doesn’t even include his four All-Star Race victories there.

In the mid-2000s, Johnson had a stretch during which he won five of eight races at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In the other three races during this stretch, he recorded two second place finishes and one third place finish.

In the last six races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Johnson has finished worse than eighth place just once. Even in the one race he finished outside the top eight, he led 33 laps before running out of fuel late and finishing in 17th.

When compared to his once-dominant ways at the track, it seems that Johnson is struggling at the venue he once owned, but that’s really not the case.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is the only track where Johnson has finished in the top 10 in every race since the fall of 2017.

You could even add his success at the Roval as a reason for why he has a good chance to get back to victory lane here.

His famous battle with Martin Truex Jr. in the inaugural race at the Roval served as one of his few bright spots in 2018. It was essentially his only shot at a win that year.

He even came back the next year and had a solid ninth place run.

If he needs any help with how to run the Roval, he can look no further than teammates Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman. Elliott came back from a crash to win the 2019 race at the track, and Bowman finished just behind him in second place.

With two races coming up at the oval track, there is no time better than the present for Johnson to get back to victory lane.
