Top 5 superspeedway drivers: Honorable mentions

With a group of drivers as good as this one, you cannot fit everyone in the top five. So these honorable mention drivers have performed well at the superspeedways, but they have not put themselves in that top tier of superspeedway drivers quite yet.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has two career wins in the NASCAR Cup Series, and both came at superspeedways. He won the 2017 GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway and the 2017 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. In the past nine superspeedway races, he has an average finish of 16.11 with two top five finishes, three top 10 finishes and 156 laps led.

Aric Almirola also has two career wins in the Cup Series, and both also came at superspeedways. He won the rain-shortened 2014 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway and the 2018 1000Bulbs.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Almirola also led on the last lap of the 2018 Daytona 500 before contact with Austin Dillon sent him into the wall and out of contention. In the past nine superspeedway races, he has an average finish of 13.33 with a win, two top five finishes, five top 10 finishes and 38 laps led.

Chase Elliott has one career win at a superspeedway. That win came in the 2019 GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Elliott has been a driver who has been more aggressive, and sometimes that has gotten him in trouble. If it wasn’t for those incidents, he would have better numbers. In the past nine superspeedway races, he has an average finish of 19.89 with a win, two top five finishes, three top 10 finishes and 105 laps led.

Kyle Busch has to be mentioned when it comes to any form of racing in NASCAR. Busch only has two superspeedway wins, and both came back in 2008. He won the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway and the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Luck has not been on Busch’s side in these types of races. In the past nine superspeedway races, his average finish is 19.56 with one top five finish, two top 10 finishes and 67 laps led.

Now let’s get to the top five.
