Top 5 superspeedway drivers: No. 2 – Joey Logano

Every time NASCAR heads to a Daytona International Speedway or Talladega Superspeedway, Joey Logano’s name comes up as one of the favorites. Ever since scoring his first superspeedway win back in the 2015 Daytona 500, Logano has been a strong force at these tracks.

Since that win in the 2015 Daytona 500, Logano has won three times at Talladega Superspeedway. Those wins came in 2015, 2016 and 2018. That win in the 2018 GEICO 500 is the most recent win he has earned at a superspeedway.

That makes it seven superspeedway races since Logano has won, and since his 2015 Daytona 500 win, this is his longest win drought at superspeedways. Before this, his longest win drought was five races, from the 2016 Hellman’s 500 in the fall at Talladega Superspeedway until he won the 2018 GEICO 500 in the spring at the same venue.

Logano may be due for another win at a superspeedway. He was close to a win in the 2019 Daytona 500, when he made a charge to second place on the last lap but fell to fourth behind Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones.

Logano is one of the best at blocking and holding the lead once he gets there. That has been proven by him leading the field in total laps led in the past nine superspeedways. He has led 183 laps over the course of these nine races.

Over the past nine superspeedway races, Logano’s average finish is 13.22 with the win at Talladega Superspeedway in 2018 and four other top five finishes.

As long as he can stay out of trouble and be there at the end, he has a shot to win more superspeedway races and possibly catch up to the six wins of teammate Brad Keselowski.
