Bubba Wallace 2021 landing spots – Chip Ganassi Racing

If a return to Richard Petty Motorsports doesn’t work out, the possibility of Bubba Wallace hopping into another already funded car makes a ton of sense if he is to stick around at the highest level of NASCAR competition for another year.

One seat that stands out is the #42 Chevrolet at Chip Ganassi Racing. This seat was occupied by Kyle Larson before several sponsors cut ties with him after he uttered a racial slur, effectively forcing Chip Ganassi to cut him if he wanted to retain millions of dollars worth of sponsorship funding.

Matt Kenseth replaced Larson, but the 48-year-old is a far cry from being a long-term solution for the team. He did show he can still contend for wins every once in a great while with his second place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but his other starts have shown that his golden years are well behind him.

While Ganassi has already said he “has a plan” for Ross Chastain after making the shocking decision to hire Kenseth instead of him to replace Larson, Wallace has confirmed that he has an offer from the team.

Plus, Chastain could still end up signing elsewhere, or that “plan” may simply be to eventually replace Kurt Busch behind the wheel of the #1 Chevrolet. Busch’s contract expires after the 2021 season.

Wallace, who, like Chip Ganassi Racing, already has a primary sponsorship deal with McDonald’s, has proven that he can get the most out of his equipment in what was recently a backmarker car. Giving him a shot to compete alongside Busch in a fast #42 Chevrolet on a one-year deal could be the break he needs to potentially establish himself as a true contender.
