Possible Chip Ganassi Racing drivers: Bubba Wallace

Bubba Wallace is in a contract year at Richard Petty Motorsports after signing a two-year contract extension back in August of 2018, and they are certainly not the most financially stable team on the grid.

While the simplest solution would be for him to re-sign and continue to move the team forward like he has done since the latter half of last year, especially since they have offered him an extension that includes an ownership stake in the team, that will not happen.

With Wallace having opted to look elsewhere for a ride, which is something he had be tipped to do given the fact that he has outperformed his equipment in what had been a backmarker car that led him to finishes of 28th place in the championship standings in both of his first two years with the team, Chip Ganassi Racing could be an option.

The #42 Chevrolet already has several sponsorship deals in place, so funding would not be an issue. Plus, Wallace has recently acquired several of his own sponsors that aren’t tied directly to Richard Petty Motorsports, and he and Chip Ganassi Racing already share McDonald’s as a primary sponsor.

A ride with Chip Ganassi Racing alongside Kurt Busch in the #1 Chevrolet could be the 26-year-old Mobile, Alabama native’s first true opportunity to prove what he is capable of at NASCAR’s top level. A one-year deal would make a ton of sense.
