Ross Chastain 2021 landing spots: Chip Ganassi Racing

All eyes have been on Ross Chastain making the move to Chip Ganassi Racing’s NASCAR Cup Series team since his impressive three-race stint for the team in the Xfinity Series back in the 2018 season.

He dominated the race at Darlington Raceway before he was involved in a wreck with Kevin Harvick, and he then dominated the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway en route to his first career win. He wrapped up this stint with a solid second place finish at Richmond Raceway.

Chastain was slated to have competed for the team full-time at NASCAR’s second highest level of competition in 2019, but a sponsorship debacle prevented that from happening. He remains tied to the team and poised for a move to the Cup Series at any time.

However, he did not get the nod earlier this season when many fans expected he would. After Kyle Larson, who had drive the #42 Chevrolet since the 2014 season, used a racial slur during a virtual NASCAR race on iRacing, he lost several sponsors and ended up being fired by Chip Ganassi Racing.

All eyes turned to Chastain at that point, but Chip Ganassi Racing made the shocking decision to sign 48-year-old and twice-retired Matt Kenseth to replace Kenseth.

He did, however, say that he still “has a plan” for Chastain. Could that plan involve a detour?
