Possible Hendrick Motorsports car numbers: #25

This may be the least likely of the options Hendrick Motorsports could use, but it is a possibility. The number 25 has seen its share of drivers over the years in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Tim Richmond was the first driver of the #25 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. He drove full-time in 1986 and part-time in 1987. In 37 starts, he won nine races. In 1986, he finished in third place in the championship standings. Had he stayed in the car, he may have won a championship.

The longest tenured driver of the #25 car was Ken Schrader from 1988 to 1996. Schrader was able to win four races in his nine seasons behind the wheel of the #25 Chevrolet. He finished in a career-high fourth place in the standings in 1994.

After Schrader, nobody held the number 25 consistently until Brian Vickers drove the #25 Chevrolet from 2003 to 2006. Vickers was able to score one win the car in 2006 at Talladega Superspeedway.

After one year with Casey Mears in 2007, which included a win in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the #25 Chevrolet was run part-time. Brad Keselowski ran a handful of races in the car in 2008 and 2009. In 2015, Chase Elliott ran five races in the car before moving to the #24 Chevrolet as Jeff Gordon’s full-time replacement in 2016.

Hendrick Motorsports could go back to the number 25, but it seems like an unlikely scenario considering the other options.
