Possible Hendrick Motorsports car numbers: #57

This option for Hendrick Motorsports is an interesting one. There is only one circumstance in which the number 57 would be used, and that is if Kyle Larson is driving their fourth car.

Number 57 is Larson’s personal number which he uses in dirt track racing series. It is a number which he has run his whole dirt track racing career.

The number is not currently owned by any NASCAR Cup Series team. The last time the number 57 was used at NASCAR’s top level was in 2010.

Norm Benning failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 behind the wheel of the #57 Chevrolet that year. He also competed in the All-Star Open and finished in 20th place, thus failing to qualify for the All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The last time the number 57 was used in a Cup Series points race was in 2003 when Brett Bodine finished in 31st place at Darlington Raceway and Kevin Lepage ran two races, one at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and another one at Michigan International Raceway.

This would mark a clean slate for Larson at Hendrick Motorsports. There would be no legacy to fulfill, and it would make him a lot easier to pick out on the track for the abundance of dirt track racing fans he has.

This would be a likely scenario for Hendrick Motorsports if Larson does end up driving their fourth car in 2021.
