Erik Jones 2021 landing spots: Hendrick Motorsports

Hendrick Motorsports has been floated as an option for quite a few drivers who are not under contract for next year, and that is also the case for Erik Jones.

While Jones has been a Toyota driver for several years, that is not guaranteed to be the case in 2021 following his departure from Joe Gibbs Racing.

Of the five options discussed in this article, the #88 Chevrolet is one of three which will absolutely have a new driver next year.

Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson confirmed last November that the 2020 season would be his last, and despite the fact that the 2020 season was drastically altered by the coronavirus pandemic as well as the fact that he missed a race after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and ultimately missed the playoffs, his plans haven’t changed.

Hendrick Motorsports already have the young trio of Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and William Byron under contract for next year. Bowman is set to move to Johnson’s #48 Chevrolet, freeing up the #88 Chevrolet.

Adding Jones, who has tremendous upside despite having only recorded two wins over almost three years at Joe Gibbs Racing, would create a formidable young quartet.

But there are other rumors that such a quartet would feature Kyle Larson instead of Jones. If that happens, where else might Jones end up?
