Erik Jones 2021 landing spots: Richard Petty Motorsports

The #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet is another car which will definitely not have the same driver next year as it does this year. Earlier this year, Bubba Wallace, who has driven full-time for the team since the 2018 season, announced that he will not be back with the team next year.

The 26-year-old Mobile, Alabama native later announced that he would be driving for a new team co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and fellow NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.

This team purchased a charter from Germain Racing, which won’t be back with their #13 Chevrolet next year after losing GEICO as a primary sponsor.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean Richard Petty Motorsports won’t be back next year. In fact, team co-owner Andrew Murstein has been regularly hinting at exciting news on the way for the team, including multiple new investors, in the near future.

As a result, this could be the perfect spot for Jones if he doesn’t end up with another top-tier team. He is reportedly in advanced talks with the team about landing a seat here as we speak.

Let’s not forget that even if he doesn’t get the call to drive the #43 Chevrolet, it’s still possible that, given the right financial situation with the potential additional investors, the team could expand to two cars.

They have run two cars before and they already own two charters, the second of which is used to field the #51 car for Rick Ware Racing (called Petty Ware Racing due to the charter).
