Lewis Hamilton is on pace to win his seventh Formula 1 world championship in 2020, but he does not yet have a deal to compete in 2021.

Only a few weeks after breaking Michael Schumacher’s all-time Formula 1 wins record of 91 with his victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix at Algarve International Circuit, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is slated to tie Schumacher’s all-time world championships record with his seventh title.

It would take a miracle for Hamilton not to win this year’s world championship, which would be his fourth in a row and sixth in the last seven years, given his massive lead over teammate Valtteri Bottas in the driver standings.

But he does not yet have a contract to return to the sport next year. Where will he end up? Here are three possible landing spots.

Why fix what isn’t broken? The Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes combination is the best combination in Formula 1 history, and with Hamilton set to win a record-tying seventh world championship this season after tying and breaking Schumacher’s wins record and then immediately adding to it, there is no reason, from a competition standpoint, for either party in this duo to walk away from the other after the season ends.

While nothing is off the table for Hamilton and he admitted that his future is uncertain after securing his 93rd career victory, he has also stated that it simply hasn’t been the right time for contract negotiations next year with the Silver Arrows and that he does believe a deal will get done if he wants to return. If he doesn’t want to be back, however, what’s next for the sport’s all-time winningest driver?
