Top 3 open seats for 2021: No. 2 – Gaunt Brothers Racing

Gaunt Brothers Racing competed full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for the first time in 2020 with Daniel Suarez behind the wheel of the #96 Toyota.

Suarez, however, will not return to the team in 2020 and is set to drive the #99 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing Team, Justin Marks’s new team.

There has been no word on this team’s future other than the fact that Suarez won’t be back. They still don’t own a charter, and while they would like to change that, there is no guarantee that that will happen.

There were also talks about additional investors and additional support from Toyota Racing Development to elevate the competitiveness of the team, ideally to that of Furniture Row Racing when they had a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing from 2016 to 2018 and won the 2017 championship. But once again, nothing has been announced.

Gaunt Brothers Racing are one of only three Toyota teams in the Cup Series, with the other two being Joe Gibbs Racing and 23XI Racing, the new team which have a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing.

But they also have not confirmed whether they will even compete full-time again in 2021.

Nevertheless, assuming they return full-time in 2021, this ride remains desirable for a driver looking to gain valuable Cup Series experience and could have some pretty solid upside depending on what happens with additional investors and support from Toyota.
