Sports car champion Cameron Lawrence is set to make his NASCAR debut in this Saturday’s Truck Series race at Circuit of the Americas.

Cameron Lawrence has never competed in a NASCAR race before, but he is set to change that this weekend, and he may actually be at an advantage over several other drivers in the field.

It was confirmed last month that Lawrence is set to pilot the #33 Chevrolet Silverado for Reaume Brothers Racing in this Saturday afternoon’s race at Circuit of the Americas, where the Truck Series has never previously raced.

While the 28-year-old Orlando, Florida native, who currently resides near the race track in Austin, Texas, does not have any NASCAR experience, his illustrious road course racing background from driving sports cars should serve him well as he competes at the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) circuit.

More from Camping World Truck Series

He is a two-time SCCA Trans-Am Series TA2 champion (2013 and 2014), and he was also crowned WeatherTech SportsCar Championship North American Endurance Cup GTD champion. He was also a driver of the GTD class-winning entry in the Rolex 24 at Daytona back in 2015.

Lawrence, who is set to compete this weekend with primary sponsorship backing from veteran-owned companies Texas Mobile Radiology, Impact Health Labs and Front Line Mobile Health, has turned many laps at Circuit of the Americas before, just not in a truck.

Here is what he had to say about the chance to compete in one of NASCAR’s three national series this weekend.

"“The magnitude of this opportunity is incredible, and I feel fortunate to be making my debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at my home track, Circuit of the Americas, with the support of three Texas-based and veteran-owned companies. I spend a lot of time at Circuit of the Americas, whether it’s racing or coaching, and I’m confident in my local knowledge.”"

Additionally, Fullbay, a cloud-based software that supports and manages commercial vehicle repair shop businesses, has partnered with Lawrence as a co-sponsor.

Lawrence added the following.

"“I’m thrilled to make my debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at my home track, Circuit of the Americas, with the support of my partners, Texas Mobile Radiology, Impact Health Labs, Front Line Mobile Health and Fullbay.“My professional career has provided me with a unique platform to raise awareness for incredible causes. I’m honored to recognize the hard work and dedication of frontline workers and first responders – especially after a challenging year for these essential workers – on the No.33 Chevrolet Silverado.“I’m also incredibly excited to raise awareness for the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST). FAST is working tirelessly to create meaningful change for individuals living with Angelman syndrome. I hope that this platform will raise awareness and additional resources to fund future research and advancements for the Angelman community.”"
