Possible NASCAR renegades: No. 2 – Ryan Blaney

The son of former NASCAR Cup Series driver Dave Blaney, the 27-year-old driver of the #12 Team Penske Ford has shown that he is another driver who has not only shown his will to win on the race track, but a “no prisoners” mentality off of the race track as well.

Ryan Blaney has shown his desire to win and his “whatever it takes” driving style before, especially at Talladega Superspeedway, where he has won twice after bumping and banging with the likes of Ryan Newman, Erik Jones and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Most recently, Blaney tangled with off-track friend Chase Elliott in the Busch Clash, the preseason exhibition race at the Daytona International Speedway road course. That resulted in Blaney spinning out, allowing third place driver Kyle Busch to steal the win.

While Blaney didn’t seem to think Elliott did on purpose, he wasn’t afraid to say that he’d do the same thing if he was in the same position.

Last year in the playoffs when Blaney needed a win at Bristol Motor Speedway to advance to the next round, he issued a warning to those in front of him. He currently has five wins to his name, but he doesn’t yet seem to take the chances he needs to take to get more. That should change.
