Drivers most likely to switch teams after 2021: No. 1 – Ryan Newman

Even if Brad Keselowski does move to Roush Fenway Racing for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season as expected, there is no guarantee that Ryan Newman won’t be back.

However, with Keselowski believed to be replacing Newman behind the wheel of the #6 Ford, this would require what would be Roush-Fenway-Keselowski Racing to run three cars, something they haven’t done since the 2016 before they shuttered the #16 team. The plan is for Chris Buescher, the current driver of the #17 Ford, to stay put.

Roush Fenway Racing could opt to run three cars with two charters, but running three cars likely depends on the purchase of a third charter. In 2016, all three of their cars were chartered entries.

Newman is one of the oldest drivers in the Cup Series, but it’s evident that he has no desire to retire. He still has a passion to compete, so if he ends up being replaced at Roush Fenway Racing after three seasons with the team, the odds of him packing it in and hanging up his helmet are slim to none.

He would be an ideal veteran to pair with a younger driver Bubba Wallace at 23XI Racing, assuming they expand, or Daniel Suarez at Trackhouse Racing Team, with them set to expand after announcing their purchase of Chip Ganassi Racing.
