Moves we want to see: No. 3 – Ross Chastain to Trackhouse Racing Team

Like Kurt Busch, Ross Chastain finds himself without a deal to compete in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, and he too has a 0% chance to be back in his current situation next year.

With Trackhouse Racing Team set to acquire Chip Ganassi Racing after the 2021 season, Chastain will not be back behind the wheel of the #42 Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi’s team next year.

Busch appears to be Trackhouse Racing Team’s desired second driver to pair alongside Daniel Suarez in the #99 Chevrolet, as he was in contact with the team about driving their second car even before they announced that they will be acquiring his current team, but Chastain is on their radar as well, and for good reason.

If Busch ends up accepting a deal to pilot a second car for 23XI Racing, it only makes sense that Chastain would be the man called upon to drive the second Trackhouse Racing Team Chevrolet as they continue to develop their program in year number two next season.

Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be a ton of other competitive seats out there for which he is considered a top candidate, and he absolutely deserves a competitive ride.

Chastain showed his potential in the lower series en route to landing the best opportunity of his NASCAR career with Chip Ganassi Racing this year, and he has continued to demonstrate that he is capable of performing at a high level. While his driving style has led to some inconsistency, that will naturally improve over time — if given the chance.
