Ryan Newman 2022 landing spots for 2022: No. 2 – Roush Fenway Racing

Of course, this wouldn’t be a full-time ride like Ryan Newman has had with Roush Fenway Racing in each of the last three seasons.

But while this would take away his option to compete for a championship, a part-time schedule is an opportunity that would give him the chance to continue chasing wins and furthering his legacy in the sport. And it may become a reality.

Roush Fenway Racing president Steve Newmark has said he has talked to Newman and gauged his interest in a part-time role with the team for 2022. Newmark also indicated that a three-car team would be a possibility when Keselowski’s deal with the team was reached in March.

If Newman decides that his options for full-time rides are unsatisfactory or non-existent, he may decide to stick with the team for which he has driven since 2019, just in a smaller role.

Additionally, a veteran presence in a part-time role could aid Roush Fenway Racing as they adjust to the Next Gen car. Feedback and exploration on a part-time car with a seasoned driver could be what they need to improve their organization going into a season that will present close to an even playing field for teams.

Newman is set to turn 44 years old before the start of the 2022  season, so a part-time season could also serve as somewhat of an honorary goodbye season like we’ve seen drivers attempt in the past. Paying it back to the sport and the fans could be a feel-good moment for all involved.
