While many big name drivers have been signed for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, there are still several without contracts.

Many of the big name free agents have signed new deals to continuing competing in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, including but not limited to Kurt Busch with 23XI Racing, Ross Chastain with Trackhouse Racing Team, Alex Bowman with Hendrick Motorsports and Brad Keselowski with Roush Fenway Racing.

But even with all of those deals out of the way, there are still quite a few active Cup Series drivers who are not under contract to compete beyond the 2021 season finale at Phoenix Raceway in early November.

Here are the top five.

Top remaining free agents for 2022: No. 5 – Ryan Preece

Of the five drivers included on this list, Ryan Preece is the least likely to return to the NASCAR Cup Series next year. He is the only active full-time driver who drives a non-chartered car, and JTG Daugherty Racing have confirmed that they will be downsizing from two cars to only one car, their lone chartered car, next season.

While his Cup Series numbers over three seasons never stacked up to those of his teammates (Chris Buescher in 2019, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in 2020 and 2021), his success in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series should have teams lined up to sign him for next year. If not, he could always return to the Whelen Modified Tour, where he has also had success.
