Top driver changes for 2022: No. 1 – Brad Keselowski to Roush Fenway Racing

By far the biggest driver change heading into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, irrespective of what else ends up being announced, is Brad Keselowski leaving Team Penske for Roush Fenway Racing.

The 2012 champion has only ever known one team as a full-time Cup Series driver, and that is Team Penske. He has driven full-time for the team since 2010, but he decided that after 12 seasons, it was time for a change.

And this change isn’t just a driver change; with consideration toward more than just the immediate future, Keselowski is set to become a co-owner of his new team, along with legendary current owners Jack Roush and Fenway Sports Group.

Keselowski is the only driver on this list who is actually being replaced next season, so the chain of events stemming from this move also makes it quite a significant one. Team Penske have promoted Austin Cindric from their Xfinity Series team to replace him behind the wheel of the #2 Ford next year.

Cindric had been slated to replace Matt DiBenedetto at the Team Penske-affiliated Wood Brothers Racing, but those plans changed when it was discovered that Keselowski would not be signing an extension.

Current Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series driver Harrison Burton is instead set to replace DiBenedetto behind the wheel of the #21 Ford next year. DiBenedetto is still seeking a new ride.
