Rain at Talladega Superspeedway has caused Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race to be postponed until Monday afternoon.

After darkness led to an early end to Saturday night’s round of 12 NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, rain led to a delayed start to Sunday afternoon’s round of 12 Cup Series playoff race at the same venue.

But even that delayed start never actually went green. After track drying efforts allowed the cars to circle the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked oval in Lincoln, Alabama for pace laps about an hour later than initially scheduled, more rain led NASCAR to bring them back into the pits.

It was at this point when it was announced that this would become the third postponed Talladega Superspeedway race in the last five visits to the track.

The playoff race in October 2019 at the track was pushed back from Sunday, October 13 to Monday, October 14, and the regular season race in June 2020 at the track (rescheduled from April due to COVID-19-related restrictions) was pushed back from Sunday, June 21 to Monday, June 22.

Monday’s race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET. Be sure to start your free trial of FuboTV today if you have not already done so!

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin is set to start this 188-lap YellaWood 500 from the pole position behind the wheel of his #11 Toyota. After winning the round of 12 opener at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last Sunday night and winning last year’s playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, he is listed as the favorite by WynnBET to win tomorrow.

Hamlin’s odds are listed at +700, which are much longer than most race favorites considering the “wild card” aspect of superspeedway races.
