Possible Joe Gibbs Racing drivers: No. 3 –  Ty Gibbs

Ty Gibbs getting a full-time ride at Joe Gibbs Racing next year seems like more of a reality than just a possibility. The 19-year-old has already begun carving his path to a full-time Xfinity Series ride by grabbing three wins this year as a part-time driver.

While the traditional route for a driver may include starting out in the Truck Series, Gibbs has seemed to bypass that series. If a Truck Series ride was in the future for Gibbs, this season would have most likely seen the Charlotte, North Carolina native take the path of Nemechek and compete in a Kyle Busch Motorsports truck.

Instead, Gibbs has piloted the #54 Toyota for his grandfather’s Xfinity Series team, and he won on debut at the Daytona International Speedway road course before adding two more victories at his home track of Charlotte Motor Speedway and Watkins Glen International. He has dominated  the ARCA Menards Series as well with 10 wins and 10 poles. His success speaks for itself.

To fill out the roster at Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Gibbs should be considered a lock for the #18 Toyota with Daniel Hemric headed to Kaulig Racing.

The number with which Joe Gibbs started his NASCAR ownership career can now be run by his grandson, giving Ty the opportunity to pilot the flagship car in the family-owned, Charlotte-based team. He would be a serious threat to win the championship in his first full Xfinity Series season.
