NASCAR: Don’t ignore today’s ‘major announcement’

Roush Fenway Racing are set to make a “major announcement” regarding the future of their NASCAR Cup Series team later today.

One of the major changes to the NASCAR Cup Series lineup for the 2022 season is the addition of Brad Keselowski to the team currently known as Roush Fenway Racing.

Keselowski, the 2012 series champion, competed full-time for Team Penske from 2010 to 2021, but he made the decision to move to the team co-owned by legendary owner Jack Roush and Fenway Sports Group not only as a driver but as a team co-owner starting next year.

Team ownership was something which Roger Penske’s team could not offer him but Roush Fenway Racing could.

Keselowski is set to replace Ryan Newman behind the wheel of the #6 Ford and compete alongside Chris Buescher behind the wheel of the #17 Ford beginning in February.

But with Keselowski coming on as a third co-owner of the team, a name change has been seen as inevitable.

And later today, we may very well get to find out what the team will be known as moving forward.

According to Davey Segal of Frontstretch and SiriusXM NASCAR, Roush, Keselowski and team president Steve Newmark are set to be in attendance at Charlotte Motor Speedway later today for a “major announcement” regarding the team’s future branding.

With the 2021 season in the books and Keselowski officially out at Team Penske, it would make sense that a name change amid his arrival was withheld until now, despite the fact that the move was confirmed several months ago — and leaked several months before that.

Roush Fenway Racing later hinted that this “major announcement” will be made at 12:30 p.m. ET, though they did not confirm the subject of the announcement.

The 64th annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway is scheduled to get the 2022 season underway on Sunday, February 20. Keselowski is still seeking his first victory in this race, while Roush Fenway Racing have won this particular crown jewel event on two occasions (2009 and 2012).
