NASCAR teams that still need drivers: No. 2 – Spire Motorsports

Speaking of Spire Motorsports, there are still some question marks about their future as it pertains to their driver lineup ahead of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

As mentioned in the previous slide, they sold two charters to Kaulig Racing for next year, including the one which they had leased out to Trackhouse Racing Team, leaving them with just one.

This was an interesting move for the two-car team, and it unsurprisingly left them in pursuit of what would be a second charter for 2022.

They had been in advanced talks to purchase a charter from the now defunct StarCom Racing team, but that deal ultimately fell through and the charter that had been used to run the #00 Chevrolet was instead sold to 23XI Racing, which plan to use it to run the #45 Toyota for Kurt Busch.

Corey LaJoie is set to return for a second full season behind the wheel of the #7 Chevrolet next year, but there are questions about the #77 Chevrolet.

Will that car be back next year? The answer would obviously be yes if they secure a second charter. But what if they don’t? Would they run a non-chartered entry?

Either way, if that car returns, expect it to return with a number of different drivers behind the wheel at some point throughout the season, and none of those drivers have been confirmed.
