Drivers who haven’t been formally confirmed: No. 3 – Cole Custer

Cole Custer is in a situation similar to that of Aric Almirola in that he competes for Stewart-Haas Racing and the length of his contract hasn’t been publicized.

The only reason this might be of concern is the fact that Stewart-Haas Racing haven’t had the same four-driver lineup from one year to the next since the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

However, every time during this five-year streak of changes, it was confirmed before year ended which driver would be out.

Even after a “sophomore slump” in 2021 following a Rookie of the Year campaign in 2020 that saw him win a race and advance to the playoffs, Custer is expected to return in 2022.

“We feel like they’ve all contributed and worked really well together to try to find solutions [amid a challenging 2021 season],” Tony Stewart said. “This is the lineup I want for next season.”

As Stewart indicated when talking about the team’s 2022 driver lineup, there were never any plans to make a change here, and Custer is expected to return for what would be a third season behind the wheel of the #41 Ford.
