IndyCar: 3 teams that still need drivers for the 2022 season

There are still several seats open in the IndyCar driver lineup for the 2022 season. Here are three teams that still need drivers.

We are almost three months into the offseason between the 2021 and 2022 IndyCar seasons, and we are less than two and a half months away from the scheduled start of the 2022 season on Sunday, February 27 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Several driver confirmations have already been made about next year’s driver lineup, but there is still quite a bit that has not yet been announced.

So take a look at three teams that still need to confirm drivers for next year.

NOTE: This list does not include teams that may run an extra part-time car. All entries discussed are full-time entries.

Teams that still need drivers for 2022: No. 1 – Dale Coyne Racing

Dale Coyne Racing are slated for another driver lineup overhaul.

Romain Grosjean is set to depart from the #51 Honda, which was entered through a new partnership with Rick Ware Racing, and replace Ryan Hunter-Reay behind the wheel of the #28 Honda at Andretti Autosport, and all signs point to Ed Jones being out after one year behind the wheel of the #18 Honda, which was entered through a longtime partnership with Vasser-Sullivan.

With Vasser-Sullivan also out, it is expected that David Malukas, who tested for the team at Barber Motorsports Park in October, is set to join the team a pilot the #18 Honda through a partnership with Henry Malukas Drivers.

UPDATE: David Malukas has been confirmed.

Takuma Sato, who is set to be replaced by rookie Christian Lundgaard behind the wheel of the #30 Honda at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, has been confirmed as Grosjean’s replacement behind the wheel of the #51 Honda.
