The early betting odds for the 2022 Formula 1 world championship have been revealed after Sunday’s 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won his first career Formula 1 world championship with a last-lap pass of rival Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit after a controversial restart took place with just one lap remaining.

Verstappen led only the 58th lap of this 58-lap race around the 16-turn, 3.281-mile (5.280-kilometer) road course on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Hamilton, who led 51 of the first 57 laps, was denied what would have been a record-breaking eighth world championship and a record-tying fifth in a row.

Verstappen became the first new world champion since Nico Rosberg beat Hamilton to win the title in 2016. He became Red Bull’s first world champion since Sebastian Vettel won four in a row from 2010 to 2013, and he became Honda’s first world champion since Ayrton Senna won it for McLaren in 1991.

But now the offseason is upon us, and it’s time to look ahead to the 2022 season.

Will Verstappen become the first driver since Vettel to win his second world championship the year after winning his first? Will Hamilton break the tie with Michael Schumacher for the most world titles ever? Will another new champion emerge?

With the changes coming to the cars for next year, there are quite a few unknowns as to which teams will be best prepared to tackle the new challenges.

Hamilton, given the fact that he has won four of the last five and six of the last eight world championships, deserves to be the favorite, despite losing this year’s battle to Verstappen.

But Verstappen at +250 may be good value, considering what he accomplished this year and the fact that many anticipate another close fight.

George Russell at +600 may be good value as well, but that could depend on how well he starts his first season driving for Mercedes.

Many expect Hamilton to be the number one driver from the get-go at the Silver Arrows, but they are well aware that Russell is their future. Will he be able to challenge Hamilton, or will he end up settling into a number two driver role like Valtteri Bottas did?
