Possible car numbers for Joe Gibbs Racing: Number 2 – #20 Toyota

It hasn’t been used as the number for their “star car” since the 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series season (and even then, Joe Gibbs Racing ran two additional “star car” entries for multiple drivers throughout the season as opposed to just one), but it is very possible that the number 20 will again fulfill that role in 2022.

Harrison Burton drove the #20 Toyota for the team in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but he has been promoted to the Cup Series for next year. He is set pilot the #21 Ford for Wood Brothers Racing as the replacement for Matt DiBenedetto.

Despite the fact that the 2022 season will mark five seasons since the #20 Toyota has served as the “star car”, the 2017 season isn’t the only season during which the car has provided a seat to multiple drivers.

But interestingly enough, the #20 Toyota hasn’t been used as a “star car” in a season during which there was no other “star car” at Joe Gibbs Racing since 2009.

Given the history of the other car numbers in contention to fulfill this role next year, should we really expect this trend to end next year? Will this really be the car that ends up being driven by multiple drivers throughout the 2022 season?
