NASCAR: The 2 cars left without confirmed drivers

There are just two cars left without any confirmed full-time or part-time drivers for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, and both are with the same team.

The start of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is next month, and the driver lineup has been slowly but surely coming together.

Highlighting this week as far as announcements are concerned was the confirmation that Josh Bilicki is set to pilot a second chartered entry for Spire Motorsports for the majority of the upcoming 36-race season. The former Rick Ware Racing driver is set to drive the #77 Chevrolet alongside full-time driver Corey LaJoie in the #7 Chevrolet.

With B.J. McLeod set to return to the #78 Ford for the team he co-owns, Live Fast Motorsports, in a similar role as the primary, but not completely full-time, driver next year, this leaves just two cars without any confirmed full-time or part-time drivers for the 2022 season.

Those two cars are the two Rick Ware Racing cars.

Rick Ware Racing ran four cars throughout the 2021 season, but they have halved that for the 2022 season.

All four were chartered entries, but one of those charters was technically owned by Richard Petty Motorsports. That charter has since gone back to Richard Petty Motorsports and is set to be used to run one of their two entries following their merger with GMS Racing to form the two-car Petty GMS Motorsports team.

Team owner Rick Ware had said that he was open to selling or leasing out one of his own charters, that that is how Spire Motorsports ended up with a second one after selling two of their three (one was leased out to Trackhouse Racing Team) to Kaulig Racing.

Rick Ware Racing are set to run the #15 Ford and the #51 Ford throughout the 2022 season. It is assumed that one of their drivers will be Rick’s son Cody, but no formal confirmations have been made about the team’s plans, aside from the fact that David Ragan is set to run the Daytona 500 in the #15 car.

The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is scheduled to officially begin on Sunday, February 20 with the 64th annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, though the Busch Light Clash is scheduled to take place two weeks prior on Sunday, February 6 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
