NASCAR seats missing drivers: No. 3 – #77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

Spire Motorsports sold two of their three charters, including the one they had leased out to Trackhouse Racing Team for 2021, to Kaulig Racing for 2022. But they were able to secure another one from Rick Ware Racing to allow them to continue running a two-car program in 2022.

Corey LaJoie is set to drive the team’s #7 Chevrolet full-time again, but seat time behind the wheel of the #77 Chevrolet is again set to be split between multiple drivers.

Justin Haley, the primary driver of this car in 2021, will not be back, as he is set to drive the #31 Chevrolet full-time for Kaulig Racing instead — a car that is ironically set to be fielded using a former Spire Motorsports charter.

So far, the only confirmed driver of the #77 Chevrolet for the 2022 season is former Rick Ware Racing driver Josh Bilicki, who is reportedly set to drive it for “most” of the year.

Interestingly, Bilicki’s first start of the year isn’t scheduled to come until the season’s second race at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, February 27, so Spire Motorsports still need to name a teammate for LaJoie for the Daytona 500 to open up the year. The #77 Chevrolet is the only chartered entry without a confirmed Daytona 500 driver.
