Formula 1 manufacturer rankings: No. 9 – Aston Martin

Aston Martin quickly realized during their 2021 season that the car was unable to compete with the majority of the midfield from race to race and that their focus should be placed on the 2022 project instead.

This switch in development focus was confirmed during the summer break, in line with competing manufacturers. This switch could have very well happened far before the month-long break, following the debut of “Bottas’ Bowling Lanes” in Hungary.

After commenting on the steep learning curve of the 2022 regulations at the tail end of 2021, Otmar Szafnauer later left the team shortly following the new year.

Lawrence Stroll managed to quell worries with the rapid appointment of former BMW Sauber chief engineer Mike Krack. With such a significant change in leadership during critical points within the development of a new car, Aston Martin will be entering the new season under the duress of acclimating to new leadership.

Although their previous identity as Force India was famous for making the absolute most of the financial resources made available to them, this is not the same racing team and not the same organization making such decisions.

The only success current ownership has found thus far is through the “heavy inspiration” of previous championship-winning designs, meaning there is no current pedigree to the organization in terms of developing an entirely new machine.
