Formula 1: Way-too-early 2022 manufacturer power rankings
By Ian Higgins
Formula 1 manufacturer rankings: No. 8 – AlphaTauri
With AlphaTauri naturally closely tied to Red Bull as their sister team for young driver development, Pierre Gasly could still feel the pains of an organization entirely structured to win one Dutchman a world championship.
Red Bull will likely face consequences in 2022 for investing resources into their 2021 driver title fight, which falls directly to the feet of their younger, development-dependent sibling, who has historically rummaged through the Red Bull parts bin in order to put together a competitive package.
Although they have been power-ranked eight, AlphaTauri could be hitting a critical juncture in their identity as a team in relation to Red Bull.
If Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez find themselves in uncompetitive machinery for the 2022 season, will AlphaTauri follow suit and wait for their more senior counterpart to get their act together? Or will they make the long-awaited move of developing separately from the energy drink giant and create their own identity as a Formula 1 manufacturer?
