Formula 1 manufacturer rankings: No. 6 – Haas

The single most unpredictable manufacturer of the 2022 season, Haas were the first to commit to the 2022 season knowing well that they would be inhabiting the final two rows of the grid for the entirety of the 2021 campaign.

This strategy not only allowed the financially deficient team to gather their funds into a single “basket”, but it also gifted them the most wind tunnel time of any team on the grid.

This will be well-used, as Haas have only grown closer to Ferrari with the acquisition of numerous personnel following budget cap cuts and the implementation of a new facility next door in Maranello, Italy.

One of the biggest hires to be made was Ferrari Head of Chassis Engineering Simone Resta, who has inherited the position of Technical Director. Resta has a proven resume working his way up the Ferrari ladder from 2001 to 2018, having been part of the technical genius behind their success across the wide timeframe.

The success of Haas will be extremely closely linked not only due to these recent developments but also because of their team history of building their car from the most “off-the-shelf” Ferrari parts as possible to reduce development costs.

Alongside Alfa Romeo in expecting significant power unit upgrades for the new season, Haas should hope to find themselves in a healthy midfield battle at the very least.
